I'm the Villain Makes Me Feel Heard And Less Alone

Hey y’all!

This week’s review is for one of my favorites, I’m the Villain.

First, the disclosure. One of the hosts, Isabel Knight, is a close friend. The other, Deondre' Jones, has been a guest on one of my storytelling shows. And I’ve been a guest on their podcast! (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/108-the-drug-episode-addiction-is-rare-but-misuse-is/id1466012587?i=1000536268646).

So anyway, let me tell you about this show. The name is a tongue in cheek reference to how older generations think Millennials are breaking… everything. But as this show helps listeners understand, it’s not that we’re breaking shit, it’s that we’re asking the most important question no one before us asked: WHY!? Why do things have to be this way?

Each episode deals with an important topic (mine was drugs) and features an expert on that topic helping people understand what we get right and what we get wrong about that important topic. And, like all of our favorite show Your Wrong About, often they point out the malicious intent behind the things we were taught that are flat our wrong.

One of the best things about this show is the hosts! Yes, again, I’m biased, but Isabel brings such refreshing excitement to each episode. She’s so clearly interested in learning new things and LOVES when guests drop knowledge. And Deondre’ is a deep, thoughtful thinker who points out interesting connections and takes the show in intelligent directions. They are a truly fantastic team.

If I had to find a downside, it’s with the structure. Occasionally, I’ll turn the show off early if the topic isn’t one that interests me. That’s not really unique to this show, I mean people have said the same thing about mine! I think the difference is because their show covers so many topics, it is more frequent than other shows that they may cover a topic that I have no interest in. But even those episodes, the hosts and the intelligence of the guests can keep you hooked longer on topics that may not interest you. So give it a longer shot.

If you want a show that helps you feel like your rage isn’t alone with the way the world works and, often, doesn’t work, this show is for you. And somehow, they’ll help you laugh along the way and feel empowered to do SOMETHING at the end.

Score: 9/10
